so, you've probably heard of arc raiders by now, and maybe you're even playing it - i know i am, and i'm totally hooked. one thing that's been on my mind, though, is the whole matchmaking system, and how it deals with aggression. like, if i defend myself in a match, am i gonna get thrown into some crazy pvp lobby afterwards? embark, the devs, just put out a blog post that explains everything, and it's actually really interesting.

basically, they use a bunch of different factors to decide who to match you with, including how you've played in previous rounds. but here's the thing - they don't just lump you in with people who play exactly the same way as you. instead, they try to find people who are similar, but not identical, in terms of their playstyle. so, if you're someone who's usually pretty chill but will fight back if necessary, you'll probably get matched with people who are similar - maybe a bit more aggressive, maybe a bit less.

i think this is really cool, because it means that the game is always going to be a bit unpredictable. you might get into a lobby where everyone is super friendly, or you might get into one where people are a bit more feisty. either way, it's always going to be a fun, dynamic experience. and, just to put our minds at ease, embark says that defending yourself is no longer considered a hostile action - so, if someone attacks you and you fight back, you won't get penalized for it.
