so i just found out that sony is being sued by a dutch consumer group over the whole playstation store situation. basically, they're arguing that sony's 30% cut on every game sold through the store is unfair, especially since retail games don't have to pay that fee. and with sony announcing that they're getting rid of physical discs by 2028, it looks like things are about to get even more heated.

i have to admit, i'm a bit worried about this whole situation. as someone who loves playing games on my playstation, the thought of not being able to buy and sell games at a competitive price is kinda scary. and with no second-hand market, it's like we're going to be stuck paying whatever price sony decides to charge us. the head of the consumer group, lucia melcherts, put it perfectly when she said that without physical discs, sony is going to have complete control over the market.

it's interesting to compare this to what's been happening with epic and apple, and even steam. i mean, steam's 30% cut is pretty standard, but at least we have the option to install other operating systems and competing storefronts on our pcs. with playstation, it's a whole different story. and with sony's huge revenue - we're talking ¥4.69 trillion, or $29 billion - you'd think they could afford to give consumers a bit of a break.

i'm not sure what's going to happen with this lawsuit, but i'm hoping that sony will listen to consumers and make some changes. maybe they'll find a way to make the playstation store more competitive, or offer some kind of alternative to the 30% cut. or maybe they'll justRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
