omg, you guys, i just heard the sad news about double fine productions - they're having to lay off some of their staff. this is really tough to hear, especially since they're such an iconic studio with a history of creating super unique and quirky games. i mean, who doesn't love psychonauts 2, right?

so, apparently this all went down after they split from xbox, which is pretty recent. like, only a month ago we found out that xbox was cutting a bunch of jobs and parting ways with four studios, including double fine. now, double fine is trying to make it on their own as an independent studio again, and that means they have to downsize to survive. studio head tim schafer said they didn't take this decision lightly, which is totally understandable - 23 people are losing their jobs, and that's never easy.

i'm trying to stay positive, though. double fine has always been a studio that's all about creativity and doing their own thing, so i'm hoping they'll bounce back from this. they've got a great track record of making games that are a little off the beaten path, but still totally charming. i mean, have you played kiln? it's this adorable multiplayer pottery game that's just so much fun. and psychonauts 2 is, like, a work of art or something. so, even though things are tough right now, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll come out with something amazing next.

as for what's next, double fine is being a bit vague, but it sounds like they're just focusing on getting back to their independent roots. they've got their ip and catalog back, which is a big deal, and they're talking about preserving their historyRead more: Full article on www.eurogamer.net
