so i've been thinking a lot about mmo seasons lately and how they've become this huge thing in the gaming world. basically, most big mmos are now adopting this seasonal structure, where they release new content and rewards on a regular schedule, and it's kinda changing the way we play these games. i mean, take final fantasy 14, world of warcraft, and the elder scrolls online - they all have their own versions of seasons now.

i can see why this approach is appealing, though. for one, it gives us a reason to come back to the game every few months, and it's a great way to stay engaged with the community. plus, it means we don't have to deal with those annoying power grinds that can feel so overwhelming. but at the same time, i'm not sure i love the whole seasonal thing. i mean, it feels like we're always rushing to get the latest gear and rewards before they become obsolete, and that can be really stressful.

one of the things that bothers me about seasonal mmos is that our progress doesn't always feel permanent. like, if i spend months getting my character all geared up, it's gonna be replaced by something new and better in just a few months. and if i miss out on a reward, it's probably gonna be gone forever, or at least become way harder to get. it's like, what's the point of even trying, you know? and don't even get me started on how quickly seasonal zones can become irrelevant. it's like, all that work the devs put into creating this amazing content, and then it's just forgotten about after a few months.
