omg, you guys, have you been playing crimson desert? i just found out some crazy behind-the-scenes info about the game's main character, kliff. apparently, he was originally supposed to be way more scottish - like, his name was even inspired by a character from macbeth. can you imagine?

anyway, the actor who voices kliff, alec newman, was on a podcast talking about how he had to push the developers to make the character more emotive and less stoic. i can see why - kliff can come across as a bit bland at times, but i guess that's what happens when you're trying to play a character for 150 hours without giving too much away. newman said he had to keep asking the devs about the story and character development, and it's kinda cool that he was so invested in making kliff more interesting.

so, it turns out that kliff was originally named macduff, which is a pretty big deal if you're familiar with macbeth. i had no idea, but it makes sense given kliff's scottish accent. it's funny to think about how different the game could have been if they'd kept that name and theme going. maybe we would've even gotten a haggis-making minigame (a girl can dream, right?).
