Hold off on packing for a trip to the crimson desert beyond Crimson Desert's established crimson desert
A little bit of extra waiting is in order for Crimson Desert's first proper expansion, Charting the Unknown. Originally set to arrive midway through October, it's now been moved back by a couple of weeks to allow for some extra fine-tuning of the thousand or so funky open world activities devs Pearl Abyss have jammed into it.
"We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel," the studio wrote in a delay announcement posted to Twitter. "However, we have determined that we need additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience." Cue the DLC being pushed back by two weeks. It'll now arrive on October 29th.
Pearl Abyss naturally didn't get into any specifics as to what they'll be refining during the extra time, but I sincerely hope they've not just realised that the hidden land beyond the crimson desert protagonist Kliff is off to in the DLC appears to just be another crimson desert. That's assuming I wasn't misinterpreting Charting the Unknown's reveal trailer and its assertion that legends about the hidden land tell of a place with sands turned crimson by a the blood of mysterious dying folks many years ago.

Can you have too crimson of a desert thing? I'm not sure, but the expansion's Steam page promises "an ominous presence in the desert and a dangerous political conflict to a journey beyond time and an ancient secret beneath the waves" for folks to investigate. Beyond that, there's ship sailing, deep ocean diving, house building, and relationship forging to keep you occupied.
Also present on that Steam page is an AI generated content disclosure notice. "Generative AI technology is used in a supplementary capacity during the creation of some 2D prop assets," it reads. "Any such assets are replaced through our production pipeline by our art and development teams, ensuring they meet our quality standards and creative direction." It's worth noting that some of those genAI assets did previously leak through into the release version of the game, prompting an apology from Pearl Abyss and a promise to comprehensively "audit" all of the assets in the game.
