so i just saw the trailer for castlevania: belmont's curse and i'm super hyped - it's looking like a classic exploration-focused platformer, which is totally my vibe. but what's really interesting is how the devs are trying to describe the game without actually saying the word "metroidvania" - i mean, it's pretty obvious that's what it is, but i guess they don't want to invoke the whole nintendo thing.

from what i've gathered, the game is being developed by evil empire, who are also behind dead cells, and that's got some people worried it might be a roguelike. but konami is trying to reassure us that it's more of a "2d exploration action game", which sounds pretty cool to me. they're also talking about how the game is inspired by castlevania: symphony of the night, which is like, a total classic in the metroidvania genre.
