omg, you guys, unity just announced their brand new game engine, unity 7, and i am so here for it. as someone who's been following unity for a while now, i was a bit nervous about what they'd come up with next, especially after some of the drama they've been involved in lately. but it seems like they're really trying to make things right this time around.

so, one of the coolest things about unity 7 is that it's going to be super compatible with projects from the previous version, unity 6. this is huge news for devs who've been working on projects for years and were worried they'd have to start all over again. unity is promising that all projects, skills, and code will carry over smoothly, which is just a massive relief. i can only imagine how frustrating it would be to have to rebuild everything from scratch.

unity 7 is also going to have some pretty cool new features, like a new global illumination system that's designed for more believable lighting in dynamic worlds. and, of course, there are some new tools for genai fans, although unity seems to be being pretty cautious about how they're presenting this stuff. they're not pushing it as hard as some other companies, which is kind of interesting. it's like they're saying, "hey, we know this is a thing, but we're not going to force it on you." the engine also includes a new command line interface and public api, which will make it easier for external devs to collaborate on projects.
