so i just heard that the australian government is cracking down on steam and other gaming platforms over some pretty serious issues. apparently, there are concerns about extreme-right communities and grooming happening on these platforms, which is just really disturbing to think about. as someone who loves gaming, it's scary to think that some of these spaces can be used for harm.



the australian government's esafety commissioner has issued a transparency notice to valve, which means they have to explain how they're dealing with these problems on steam. if they don't comply, they could face some hefty fines - up to au$825,000 a day, which is just crazy. and it's not just steam, either - roblox, microsoft, and epic games have all been served notices as well. it's clear that the government is taking this really seriously, and i think that's a good thing.



i've heard about some of the things that have been happening on these platforms, and it's just horrific. there have been reports of terrorist and violent extremist-themed gameplay, and even games that recreate mass shootings or concentration camps. it's just so not what gaming should be about. and the fact that some of these platforms haven't even implemented age verification measures yet is just shocking. i mean, shouldn't that be a basic requirement at this point?
