omg, have you guys heard about nvidia's new dlss 5 tech? it's like, this crazy advanced neural rendering thingy that's supposed to make games look super cinematic and all that. but here's the thing - some devs are totally against it, and i'm kinda with them on this one.

i mean, the ceo of new blood interactive, dave oshry, is literally calling for a boycott of nvidia's tech. he thinks it's just a way for nvidia to sneak in some generative ai stuff that nobody really wants. and honestly, it's hard to blame him - the whole thing just feels like a big mess. oshry's all like, "what even is the point of making game art if it's just gonna get replaced by ai?" and i'm over here like, same dude, same.

apparently, dlss 5 is supposed to change the way games look in some pretty fundamental ways. it's all based on ai that's been trained on, like, instagram models and memes or something. and the devs are worried that it's just gonna make games look less realistic and believable. i can kinda see why - i mean, have you seen some of the examples of this tech in action? it's all like, weird lighting and contrast that just doesn't feel right.

the thing is, nvidia's been pushing all this fancy graphical tech for years now, and it's always been a bit of a mixed bag. i mean, some of it's been really cool, like physx and path tracing. but at the same time, it's all come at a cost - games that use this stuff can be super resource-intensive, and it's not always clear if it's really worth it.Read more: Full article on www.rockpapershotgun.com
