omg, have you guys heard about star citizen going free to play for a bit? it's part of this annual defensecon event, which is basically a virtual military convention where you can check out all the fancy ships and stuff. i'm super stoked because i've been curious about this game for ages, but the price tag was always a bit too steep for me.

so, from now until may 27, you can just create an account, download the launcher, and jump into the game. new players even get a loaner ship, the aurora mark 2, which is pretty cool. and if you want to get to the defensecon event, you can either fly there or take a shuttle - yeah, this game has virtual public transport, which is just wild. apparently, there are like 100 ships you can try out, each for 48 hours, which is an amazing opportunity to see what the game has to offer.

i've been hearing about star citizen for years, and it's crazy to think that it's almost raised $1 billion in crowdfunding. i mean, that's just insane. and even though the full game is still a ways off - probably not until 2028 at the earliest - it's cool to see that the devs are still actively working on it and adding new stuff. like, there was a major update recently that wiped the game's economy and added new mission types, which should make the game feel pretty fresh for new players.
