so, if you're into mmos like i am, you might've heard that amazon is dropping its publishing deals for lost ark and throne and liberty. this doesn't mean the games are getting cancelled or anything, though - they'll just be getting new publishers in the west. nc will be taking over throne and liberty near the end of 2026, and smilegate will be doing the same for lost ark in early 2027.

i have to admit, i'm a bit relieved that the games will still be around. i mean, amazon's been scaling back its gaming ambitions for a while now, and it seemed like only a matter of time before something like this happened. they already put their own mmo, new world, on the backburner in 2025, and there were some major layoffs. but at least lost ark and throne and liberty will still be getting regular content updates until the changeover happens.

one thing to note, though, is that some user data won't be transferred over when the new publishers take over. for lost ark, that includes things like in-game mail, friends list memos, and chat messages. it's not a huge deal, but it's still a bit of a bummer. on the bright side, the games themselves should keep on running like normal, with the same gameplay and all that. and who knows, maybe the new publishers will even bring some fresh ideas to the table.
