omg, you guys, i just found out that some super dedicated mirror's edge fans have been working on reverse engineering an old prototype of the game, and it's finally playable. i mean, we're talking about a build that's roughly nine months older than the actual game that came out 18 years ago - that's some serious dedication right there.

so, apparently this prototype was originally leaked back in 2019, but it was all buggy and couldn't be launched due to some technical issues. but these fans, softsoundd and hekigan, they didn't give up - they spent ages fixing all the problems, like repairing the broken eboot format and resolving unreal engine package bugs. and now, after hundreds of fixes, we can finally play this old build on a custom rpcs3 setup.

i have to say, it's really cool to see how different this prototype is from the final game. the lighting is way more muted, and the movement mechanics are all wonky - like, the dodge jumps give you way more height, and bunnyhops don't keep your speed up. it's also kinda funny to see some of the bugs that are still in there, like when faith crouches and turns right, the camera tilts all weirdly. and can you believe that combat used to be even more gruesome, with faith breaking guards' arms with her legs?

what's also really interesting is seeing all the cut content and early level design. it gives us a glimpse into what the game could've been like if it had been developed differently. and let's be real, it's just awesome to see how much love and care these fans have put into restoring this old build. i mean, it's not like it's a perfectly polished game or anythingRead more: Full article on www.pcgamer.com
