omg, you guys, i just heard the most devastating news - double fine, the studio behind some of my fave games like psychonauts, is laying off a bunch of staff. like, 23 people are losing their jobs, which is basically a quarter of their whole team. this is especially sad since it's happening just after they gained independence from xbox, which i thought was supposed to be a good thing.

i mean, i get that being independent means they have to be more careful with their budget and all, but it's still super tough to see so many talented people losing their jobs. the studio head, tim schafer, said that they didn't take this decision lightly, and that it was only because they need to downsize to survive. apparently, they're trying to support the people who are leaving as much as they can, which is nice, i guess.

it's crazy to think that some of the people who are being let go have been with the studio for over a decade. that's, like, a huge part of their lives, you know? and now they're just being cut loose. i feel so bad for them. i've been playing double fine games for years, and it's always been clear that they're a studio that really cares about their team and their community. so, this news is especially hard to hear.
