so, you guys might've heard that brian raffel, the co-founder of raven software, is retiring after 36 years in the gaming industry. i think it's pretty cool that he's been leading the studio since its beginning, and has been a part of creating some really iconic games. i mean, who doesn't love a good first-person shooter, right?

anyway, brian started raven software back in 1990 with his brother steve, and they've been making games nonstop since then. they're probably most famous for their work on the heretic and call of duty series, but they've also made some other awesome games like shadowcaster and soldier of fortune. i've always been a fan of their dark fantasy vibe, and i love how they've been able to blend that with fast-paced action to create some really immersive games.

one thing that's pretty interesting about raven software is that they've been acquired by activision, which has given them the resources to make some really big-budget games. brian has been vice president of activision since 1997, and he's been leading raven as studio head since then too. he's also been sharing the studio head role with dave pellas since 2024, so it'll be interesting to see how the studio changes without him at the helm. i've heard that brian is really grateful for the experience he's had, and he's thanked his brother steve for being a part of the journey with him.
