so i just heard that valve is making some pretty good progress on the steam machine, and it's all thanks to the steam deck. apparently, the engineers over at valve were able to fix a lot of the issues that would've popped up with the steam machine while they were working on the steam deck, which is pretty cool. it just goes to show that all that hard work they put into the steam deck wasn't for nothing.

i mean, think about it - the steam deck and the steam machine are basically two different versions of the same thing. they both run on steam os, and they both have the same underlying tech. so, when valve was fixing all the quirks and issues with the steam deck, they were basically laying the groundwork for the steam machine. it's like they were killing two birds with one stone, which is pretty smart if you ask me. and, according to the valve engineers, about 99% of the work was already done, which is just crazy.

but, even with all that groundwork laid, the steam machine still had its own set of unique challenges. for example, valve had to figure out how to handle things like discrete gpus and ray tracing performance, which aren't really issues on the steam deck. and, of course, there were the whole memory supply crisis and stock issues to deal with, which is just a whole other can of worms. still, it's good to see that valve is learning from their experiences and using that knowledge to make the steam machine better.
