omg, you guys, i just heard the worst news - xbox has cancelled the sequel to avowed, that amazing action-rpg from obsidian entertainment. i'm still reeling from this, especially since i just finished playing the game and was totally hooked. for those who haven't played it, avowed is this incredible high-fantasy rpg with a mix of gunplay and melee combat that just works so well together.
i was really looking forward to seeing where the story would go next, since the first game ended on this huge cliffhanger. and the world of avowed is just so rich and full of interesting characters and conflicts - it's like, the perfect setting for a sequel. plus, the magic system in the game is actually really cool, which is saying a lot since i'm not usually a fan of magic in games. but, apparently, xbox has other plans and decided to lay off a bunch of staff at obsidian and cancel the sequel.
apparently, xbox wants obsidian to focus on the fallout franchise instead, which is cool and all, but it's just so disappointing for fans of avowed. the game may not have sold as well as microsoft hoped, but it still got pretty good reviews - like, an 80 metacritic score and a "mostly positive" rating on steam. and, personally, i think it's a really solid game that deserves a sequel. i mean, i spent over 70 hours playing it and was still having fun, even if the world did feel a bit empty at times.
it's not all bad news, though - apparently, some of the remaining staff at obsidian are still working on the sequel in secret, hoping that xbox will change their mind and decide to greenlight the project again. whichRead more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
