so, you know how sometimes you get super excited about a new gaming accessory, only to find out it's missing something kinda important? yeah, that's what happened to some people who got their hands on the newest xbox controllers - they came without batteries. i mean, what's the point of a controller if you can't even use it right away?

apparently, this has been going on since december 2025, which is pretty wild. microsoft says it was just a limited number of controllers, but still, it's pretty annoying if you're one of the people who got a dud. the good news is that microsoft is finally doing something about it. they're offering a free rechargeable battery to anyone who got a controller without the standard aa batteries.

i think it's pretty cool that microsoft is taking responsibility for the mistake and trying to make it right. the process to get your free battery is pretty straightforward too - you just need to head to their website and fill out a form with your controller's serial number. don't worry if you lost your receipt, the serial number is all you need. this applies to the newer xbox wireless controllers and some of the xbox design lab controllers, so if you've got one of those, you might want to check it out.

preorders are available at major retailers, but if you already got your controller and it's one of the affected ones, you can just request that free battery and you're good to go. i'm a bit surprised this didn't happen sooner, but hey, at least microsoft is making an effort to fix the problem now. has anyone else out there had this issue with their xbox controller? what did you do, just go out and buy some batteries or wait for microsoft to sort it out?Read more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
