omg, have you guys heard about the new magic: the gathering set? it's a crossover with star trek and i'm low-key excited, but also kinda confused. i mean, magic is all about fantasy and magic (duh), but space and sci-fi are definitely not new to the game. last year's edge of eternities set was actually really cool, and it made me realize that magic can work in all sorts of settings.
but anyway, back to the star trek set. so, one of the cards that's been revealed is a reprint of sheoldred, the apocalypse, but with a twist - it's now khan from the 2013 star trek movie, played by benedict cumberbatch. which is... weird. i mean, i love benedict cumberbatch, but i don't know if i want him taking over my magic cards. and it's not just this one card - apparently, there are other cards in different sets that feature characters he's played, like doctor strange in the marvel super heroes set.
i'm starting to think that wizards of the coast is just a big fan of benedict cumberbatch or something. because, let's be real, it's not just a coincidence that he's popping up in all these different sets. and it's not just the star trek and marvel sets - there's also a new set based on the hobbit, and guess what? it features a card with smaug the magnificent, who's also played by benedict cumberbatch. like, what are the chances? it's actually kind of cool, though - if you build a certain type of deck, you can have all these benedict cumberbatch cards in one game.
