so i just heard that ubisoft is cancelling another game, and this one's really got me down. apparently, they're scrapping alterra, which was supposed to be this adorable animal crossing-inspired game. i mean, who wouldn't want to play a game that's all about building and exploring in a cute, voxel-art world?
from what i've gathered, the game was in development for three whole years at ubisoft montreal, which is just crazy to think about. all that time and effort, and it's just getting cancelled out of the blue. i'm not sure what's going on over at ubisoft, but it seems like they're having a bit of a rough year. they've already cancelled a bunch of other games, and now alterra's getting the axe too.
so, about the game itself - it was supposed to have this really unique look, with voxel graphics and npc characters called matterlings that looked like funko pop figures. players would've been able to explore different biomes, collect resources, and build stuff, kind of like in minecraft. and, of course, there would've been creatures to fight and befriend, which sounds like so much fun. i'm really sad that we'll never get to experience it now.
i guess the good news is that the staff who were working on alterra aren't getting laid off - they're just being moved to other projects within ubisoft. but still, it's a bummer that we'll never get to play this game. preorders are available at major retailers, but i guess those will be getting cancelled now too. anyway, i just thought i'd share the news and see what you guys think - are you as sad as i am about alterra getting cancelled?Read more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
