so sony just dropped some major news - they're ending production of physical playstation discs by january 2028. i'm not totally surprised, to be honest, since it feels like everyone's been going digital for ages now. but still, it's kinda wild to think about a future where we won't have those shiny discs to collect and display.
i guess the writing's been on the wall for a while, what with sony and microsoft releasing disc-less consoles back in 2020. and let's be real, most of us are already buying games digitally anyway. i mean, it's just so much more convenient to have everything stored on your console and not have to worry about scratching discs or losing them. plus, it's better for the environment, right?
apparently, this change won't affect games that are already out or coming out soon, so we don't have to worry about our favorite games disappearing. but from 2028 onwards, all new games will be digital-only, available through the playstation store or at retailers as digital downloads. it's also worth noting that the next playstation console (ps6, maybe?) won't have a disc drive in its base model, which is pretty big news.
i'm a bit sad about the ps3 and vita stores closing down, though. i know they're old consoles, but i still have a soft spot for them. and it's always sad to see a part of gaming history getting phased out. on the other hand, it's exciting to think about what the future of gaming might hold. maybe we'll see even more innovative digital-only games and experiences.
preorders are available at major retailers, so if you're looking to get your hands on some of the last physical playstation games,Read more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
