omg, you guys, i just heard the craziest story about the upcoming resident evil movie. apparently, the star, austin abrams, had a super close call during filming that could've been fatal. the director, zach cregger, shared this wild story at san diego comic-con and i'm still trying to process it.

so, there's this one scene where abrams' character is running from zombies and they're jumping from buildings and stuff. the production team decided to go all out and create these massive 150-pound blood bags to drop from cranes for a more realistic effect. and get this - one of those bags almost hit abrams, which would've been a total disaster. the director said it would've killed him if he was just one step to the right, which is just insane.

i can only imagine how intense that scene must've been to film, and it's even crazier that it made it into the final cut of the movie. cregger seems really proud of it, though, and says it was all worth it for the sake of the film. i'm not sure i agree, but i guess that's the kind of dedication that goes into making a movie. the resident evil movie is coming out on september 18, by the way, and i'm still on the fence about it.

i did find it interesting that cregger compared the story to the lord of the rings, saying that the main character is like frodo on a mission. that's a pretty big claim, but i'm curious to see how it all plays out. preorders are available at major retailers, if you're into that sort of thing. i might have to check it out just to see that crazy zombie scene for myself.
