so, you guys probably know that there's been a ton of private servers for world of warcraft over the years, but one of the most popular ones, turtle wow, just got shut down for good. i mean, this server was basically a fan-made version of the 2006 game, with its own expansions and content, which is pretty cool, but also super illegal, apparently.

i guess blizzard wasn't too happy about it, and they sued the creators last year for copyright infringement. and, honestly, it's not like i'm surprised or anything - i mean, blizzard's always been super protective of their stuff. but still, it's kinda sad to see turtle wow go, since it was such a big deal in the wow community. the server had its own fan-made expansions and content, which is pretty impressive, if you ask me.

so, basically, the judge ruled in blizzard's favor, and now the people behind turtle wow have to stop doing everything they were doing. that means no more developing, distributing, or operating the server, and they can't even ask for donations anymore. which, i guess, is fair, since they were basically making money off of blizzard's property. and it's not just turtle wow, either - the ruling says they can't work on any future projects that use blizzard's stuff, either.
