so i just heard that sony is planning to ditch physical games altogether by 2028, and apparently microsoft might be following suit with their next-gen xbox. this is pretty huge news, and it got me thinking - what does this mean for the future of gaming, and more specifically, for nintendo?

basically, if sony and microsoft do go digital-only, nintendo will be the only one left still releasing physical games. and honestly, i think this could be a really good thing for them. i mean, nintendo has always done their own thing, and it's worked out pretty well for them so far. according to some industry expert, nintendo doesn't really care what the other guys are doing, and they'll just keep on doing their own thing - which is kind of refreshing, in a way.

i did find it interesting that nintendo's digital sales are actually pretty high - like, 67% of their game sales are digital. but at the same time, they still have a really strong physical presence, especially with the switch 2. and it's not like they're getting rid of cartridges or anything - they're just doing their own thing, like always. although, i did learn that some of their games are sold as "game-key cards", which are basically just authentication keys in cartridge form. it's a bit weird, but at least they're not locked to a specific console or account, so you can still resell them.

it's also worth noting that this whole digital-only thing could have some pretty big implications for game preservation. like, what happens to all these games when the servers go down? it's a bit of a scary thought, to be honest. but hey, at least nintendo is still holding on to physical gamesRead more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
