omg, you guys, have you heard about marathon going free to play for a bit? like, it's not forever or anything, but bungie is offering a free trial of the game starting june 2 and it's gonna last till june 9. i think this is kinda cool, 'cause i've been curious about the game but wasn't sure if i wanted to drop the cash on it. plus, it's available on pc, ps5, and xbox series x|s, so most people should be able to check it out.

i did some digging and it seems like marathon's sales haven't been as awesome as bungie hoped, and the player numbers are pretty meh. so, maybe this free trial thing is a way for them to get more people into the game. it's also coinciding with the start of marathon's second season, which is pretty cool. there's gonna be a new night marsh zone, a new sentinel runner shell, and some other fresh stuff to check out.

one thing that's got me pretty hyped is that player inventories are gonna get wiped with the new season, so it's a pretty good time for newbies to jump in. we won't have to worry about getting destroyed by people with super rare loot, at least not right away. there are also some other updates coming, like a new system called the cradle that lets you level up your runner shell stats without having to worry too much about faction progression. and, of course, some quality of life changes that should make the game more fun to play.
