okay, so you guys might've heard that the dragon age series is basically dead in the water, and it's pretty sad. i mean, i've always loved the fantasy vibe of those games, and it's a shame to see them go. apparently, the sales of dragon age: the veilguard were super disappointing, and that was probably the final nail in the coffin.
according to david gaider, the former lead writer of the series, bioware was always on edge about the project being shelved. he said that even though the games would sell pretty well, ea would always be surprised by it, like they didn't expect people to actually like the series. it's kinda weird, because i've always thought that dragon age was one of the more unique and interesting rpgs out there.
but i guess ea had other priorities, like mass effect. apparently, they always favored mass effect over dragon age, even though the early dragon age games sold way better. gaider said that ea saw mass effect as this sleek, modern rpg that was easy to sell, whereas dragon age was seen as old-fashioned and story-focused. it's pretty frustrating, because i think that's what made dragon age so special in the first place.
gaider did say that he'd be down to return to the franchise, but only if he was in charge and it wasn't under ea. he wants to go back to the basics of what made dragon age so great, and do something dark and daring. i'd totally be on board with that, because i think the series has so much potential. but for now, it looks like bioware is focusing on the next mass effect game, and who knows what'll happen to the dragon age series.
