omg, have you guys heard about the new final fantasy xiv expansion? it's called evercold and it sounds amazing - we're talking stopping the fourth reflection from basically icing over the whole world. i'm so down for that. the announcement was made at the north american fan festival, which is always a big deal for ff fans.
so, the game director naoki yoshida was talking about how they came up with the name evercold, and it's kind of crazy to think that it almost had a completely different name. apparently, square enix rejected the original name they had chosen, but that's not the first time that's happened. i love getting a glimpse into the development process like this - it's so interesting to see how these big decisions get made.
yoshida was talking about how this has happened with other expansions too - like with stormblood, they were considering the name rebellion, but it got rejected for some pretty boring reasons, like legal stuff. and with shadowbringers, they thought about going with darkbringers, but that didn't work out either. it's funny to think about how different the game would feel with these alternative names. i mean, rebellion is a pretty cool name, but it doesn't quite have the same vibe as stormblood.
i'm really curious to see how evercold is going to play out - the whole "stopping the world from freezing" thing sounds like a pretty epic storyline. and i love that it's all part of the godless realms saga, which has been so engaging so far. preorders are available at major retailers, so if you're as stoked as i am, you can already get in on the action. i'm definitely planning on picking it up as soon as it drops -Read more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
