so i've been hearing a lot of buzz about college football 27, and not all of it is good. apparently, the new game has introduced some pretty controversial microtransactions in its dynasty and road to glory modes. these are the modes where you get to control a whole school football program or create your own player, and they've always been a highlight of the series for me.

i'm talking about the fact that you can now pay to instantly upgrade your coach or athlete, instead of earning it over time through gameplay. and we're not talking about a small amount of money here - to max out your coach, you'd need to spend around $100. that's just crazy, especially when you consider that even the special edition of the game doesn't come with enough points to get you to the top level. it feels like the game is basically asking you to pay up or grind for ages, and that's not what i want from a game.

it's not like this is the first time we've seen microtransactions in sports games, but it feels like ea is taking it to a whole new level with college football 27. and what really gets my goat is that they've also removed the option to tweak the xp settings, so you can't even choose to level up faster if you want to. it feels like they're trying to slow down progression on purpose, just to get people to spend more money. and honestly, it's kind of working - people are already getting pretty upset about it online.
