so, you've probably heard by now that microsoft is going through some major changes, and it's not looking great for xbox. apparently, the company is laying off a whopping 4,800 people, with 3,200 of those being from the xbox team. that's like, a huge chunk of their staff. i'm still trying to wrap my head around it, to be honest.
i was reading about what might have led to this, and it seems like some experts are pointing fingers at microsoft's ceo, satya nadella. one guy, ed zitron, is being pretty blunt about it, saying that nadella's management style is basically a disaster. zitron's not a fan of how microsoft is handling ai either, and thinks that's part of the problem. i'm not gonna lie, it's kinda scary to think that a company as big as microsoft could be making decisions that are this questionable.
so, what's actually happening with these layoffs? well, it's not just people losing their jobs - microsoft is also getting rid of five development studios. double fine and compulsion are becoming independent again, which is kinda cool, i guess. but ninja theory and undead labs are being sold off, and arkane lyon is still up in the air. i'm really hoping that marvel's blade doesn't get axed, because i was actually pretty stoked about that game. preorders are available at major retailers, but i'm not sure if that's still gonna be the case after all these changes.
