so i just heard that dying light: the beast is officially ditching last-gen consoles, which is kinda sad for anyone who was planning on playing it on ps4 or xbox one. apparently the game's visuals are just too advanced for those systems to handle, and the devs didn't want to compromise on the experience.
i can kinda see why they'd make that call, though - the game was built from the ground up for current-gen hardware, and it sounds like it really takes advantage of all the extra processing power and memory. the open world, combat, and traversal all sound super smooth and immersive, and i can imagine it would be a real bummer if they had to tone all that down just to get it running on older consoles.
it's not like this is the first time a game has skipped last-gen, either - we've seen it happen with a bunch of other titles over the past few years, like gotham knights and hogwarts legacy. and let's be real, some games just aren't meant to be played on older hardware. i mean, cyberpunk 2077 was a total mess on last-gen consoles, and it's probably better that they just focus on making the game work smoothly on the newer systems.
anyway, if you were planning on picking up dying light: the beast on ps4 or xbox one, you should be eligible for a refund, which is nice of the devs to offer. and if you do happen to have a current-gen console or a pc, you might want to check out the game's new survival mode, which sounds super interesting. apparently it lets you permanently clear out zombies from certain areas and rebuild, but it also makes supplies way harder to find, which sounds like a fun challenge.
