so i just found out that the classic zombie movie 28 days later is getting a 4k blu-ray release, which is kind of a big deal considering it was never really meant to be remastered in such high quality. i mean, the movie was shot on these super lightweight digital camcorders, which was perfect for the whole guerrilla-style filming vibe they were going for, but not so great for trying to make it look all fancy and 4k years later.

apparently, the footage was all saved on these old minidv cassettes, which are basically ancient technology now, and that's why the regular blu-ray version never really looked that great. but hey, it's not like that stopped me from loving the movie or anything - there's just something about the whole post-apocalyptic atmosphere that really draws me in. and i'm guessing i'm not the only one, since they're actually going to the trouble of putting out a fancy 4k steelbook edition.

so, the new 4k version is set to come out on september 1, and it's going to be a limited edition steelbook, which sounds pretty cool to me. i'm not sure what the price is going to be yet, but i'm hoping it's not too crazy expensive, since i'd love to get my hands on a copy. from what i've heard, the final scenes of the movie, which were shot on a different camera, already look way better than the rest of it, so i'm curious to see how the whole thing turns out in 4k.
