i'm still reeling from my recent hands-on experience with directive 8020, the latest installment from supermassive games. as a huge fan of their previous works, like until dawn and man of medan, i was stoked to dive into their first sci-fi venture. unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived, and i left the demo feeling kinda... underwhelmed.

so, what's directive 8020 all about? basically, it's part of supermassive's dark pictures anthology series, where they swap out teen horror for some creepy space exploration. the game follows the crew of the cassiopeia, a spaceship on a mission to check out a mysterious planet called tau ceti. things take a dark turn when the ship crashes, and the crew discovers they're not alone on the planet. they soon encounter some freaky alien lifeforms that can mimic their appearance, making it hard to know who to trust.

i love the vibe they're going for here - it's like a mix of alien, the thing, and event horizon all rolled into one. but, sadly, the demo just didn't quite live up to my expectations. i jumped in a couple of hours into the game, and while it was cool to see the crew trying to figure out what was going on, it didn't really scare me or leave me on the edge of my seat. maybe it's because i'm a fan of supermassive's previous work, but i was hoping for something that would really blow me away.

preorders are available at major retailers, and i'm still intrigued enough to want to check out the full game when it drops. i'm hoping that the final product will deliver on the promises made by the premise, and give me the scares i'm craving.Read more: Full article on www.gamespot.com
